  1. Inspect Pipes to Reduce Potential for Water Damage
The costs associated with fire and water damage may be lower if you are able to employ any of these measures in order to reduce for financial loss. Water damage results from leaks in pipes that burst or the impact of freezing that occurs during the cold winter months.  Having your pipes inspected after winter is one way to determine if the harshness of winter has caused any leaks or the potential for serious water damage.

Owning a safe that is fire rated and water resistant can help you preserve precious memories and important records.
  1. Make Sure Appliances are not Faulty
Frayed appliance cords that are worn due to time can become a potential fire hazard in your home. The same is true for appliances that are under an active recall by the manufacturer. An analysis of 5 years of data from the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) found that between 2006-2008 there were 150,000 fires home fires started by faulty appliances.
